The old lighthouse keeper Otto finds a young man lying motionless on the shore. Otto realizes that the boy is still breathing. It has been so long since he has had contact with another human being. The boy Joseph begins to gain Otto’s trust, they go fishing together and sing to the off-key notes of Otto’s harmonica. But Otto’s deep fear of strangers corrupts the bond between them.
